Snowbasin Ski Team - Big Mountain Team

Ages 10-18

Athletes will learn to ski big mountain terrain and will have the option to compete in local big mountain events.  Athletes need to be intermediate all-mountain skiers. Athletes will work on fundamental skiing skills in an all mountain environment with experienced coaches and Big Mt skiers. Mountain safety and snow safety awareness will be stressed and reinforced thought out the season.

SBST is for athletes looking for a structured program that is geared towards exploring Snowbasin’s world-class alpine playground.  This will be a high-energy, creative and FUN way for young skiers to get together and mix it up on the mountain in a non-competitive and low pressure setting. With a big focus on the fundamentals of proper all-mountain technique, terrain and line assessment, steep-skiing skill building, and a whole lot of FUN, we are excited to provide a new structured environment from which athletes can have a great time while growing their confidence for a lifelong love the skiing! 

Additional costs may be associated with competitions due to extra days on snow. Team Jacket included.

Snowbasin Ski Team -D Team

 Ages 7-14

The SBST “D”(development) Team offers an introduction to ski racing, providing training in fundamentals and a basic understanding of the rules of the sport. This program goes beyond the Alpine Devo (Saturday) program. It is designed to allow the athlete to pursue other interests and is the entry program if the athlete is not yet at the required skill or commitment level that the Age Class Full time SBST programs require.  Athletes will need to be enrolled in the Alpine Devo program on Saturday to participate in the “D’ team program. Athletes will have access to our home race series and possible YSL races. Athletes will work to advance to the full-time Age Class programs if desired. Athletes maybe asked to enter South Series races or train in occasion with the SBST ( “C”/”B” Teams) on coaches discretion.

The program spans the ages of U8 – U14 (7 -13 year olds), emphasizing fundamental skill development through drills, all-mountain free skiing, drill courses and gate training, providing approximately 30% of their training time in gates.

Groups are targeted at an 6:1 athlete to coach ratio. Coaches strive to build a passion for the sport by skiing a lot of mileage directed free skiing at Snowbaisn with a focus on fun, friends, a love of skiing, and an opportunity to hone skills to advance to the SBST “C” and “B” teams. Kids in this Program will be competing at the local Snowbasin events and the possibly of some Youth Ski League races. The goal with racing for this program is to go to races nearby ski areas on a single day of the weekend, to keep costs down. A US Ski and Snowboard competitor membership will be required for SBST DEVO Team members. http://my.ussa.org/membership/start

Snowbasin Ski Team - C Team - U10/U12

U10 - Ages 8-9/U12 - Ages 10-11

Comprised of 8-9 year-old athletes for U10 and 10-11year old athletes for U12. This program is organized to teach fundamental skiing skills and ski racing technique to young athletes. Emphasis is placed on free skiing in all variety of snow and terrain at Snowbasin while practicing balance, edging, body position and other essential technical elements, all while learning mountain safety and always having fun! Racing emphasis will be predominantly on modern giant slalom and slalom technique with an introduction to Super G. For training purposes athletes will often be arranged in groups of approximately 5-7 athletes per coach to facilitate a productive learning environment, groups are dynamic but are generally based on skill, speed, and social needs.

Skill Development Focus

All-Mountain Safety; developing a consistent balanced athletic position on skis; proper weight distribution on skis; having a consistent stance while maintaining balanced athletic position on skis; learning timing, balance, upper body discipline and/or upper-lower body separation, and upper body stability through the use of a single pole plant; and tactical elements of a Giant Slalom & Slalom courses.

Races

U10 and U12 athletes will compete in 6-12 races (race days) per winter.  SBST will travel with athletes to USSA sanctioned races within the Intermountain Division (South Series).  The U10 and U12 athletes will compete together in one race series, but in their own age groups.  At this age athlete must be accompanied by a parent/guardian in order to travel to races. U10/U12 athletes will be selected based on South Series results for Intermountain Championships. South Series race entry fees are included in the tuition.

Race Travel Expenses

South Series Entry fees included ( not including championships)  Athletes will responsible for lift tickets at all events (except Snowbasin) and championship or finals event entry fees.

Athletes need a Snowbasin and Nordic Valley season pass. Pass prices are not included in program fees and must be purchased directly through both resorts.

Snowbasin Ski Team - B Team - U14

Ages 12-13

Comprised of 12-13-year-old athletes, the U14 Program emphasizes ski racing technique and tactics while continuing to develop basic technical skills. Groups split their time between all-mountain skiing, drills, and gate training. Free skiing will continue to be a critical avenue for delivery and practice of fundamental skiing skills, and technical development. Athletes will develop the technical and tactical skills of Super G, Giant Slalom, and Slalom.  This program includes weekly on-snow video sessions. For training purposes athletes will often be arranged in groups of 5-7 athletes per coach to facilitate a productive learning environment, groups are dynamic but are generally based on skill, speed, and social needs. U14 athletes are encouraged to participate in dry land training and on team summer and fall camps, details to follow.

Skill Development Focus

Continued development of all around skiing skills and fundamentals, including big mountain skiing and mountain safety, but with an increasing emphasis on ski racing technique & tactics, drills, & gate training, and increased racing. U14 athletes will incorporate the technical and tactical elements of Super G, Giant Slalom, and Slalom and race Divisionally in all 3 events.

Dryland Training

U14 athletes will be encouraged to compete in 10-20 races (race days) per winter.

SBST will travel with U14 athletes to this series, which includes a Regional Championship in March. U 14 athletes will have the opportunity to travel to races as a team and without the accompaniment of a parent/guardian. 13-year-old athletes will also be eligible for IMD Open Series races.

The choice to travel to races is up to the individual athlete/family, and is not a pre-requisite for participation in the program.

Snowbasin Ski Team-A Team - U16

 Ages 14-15

The U16 team is comprised of motivated 14-15-year-old athletes who compete in local and regional USSA events at a level appropriate to their desire and ability. The U16 program features a great deal of individual attention and is tailored to offer maximum opportunity and progression for athletes through regular conditioning, on-snow training, technical discussion, and video analysis. Participation in dryland conditioning in the Fall is expected for U16 athletes. At the U16 level the emphasis is on the technical and tactical aspects of all-mountain skiing and racing. Groups split their time between all-mountain skiing, technical drills, gate training, goal setting, speed event skiing (Super-G, DH), and, as always, having fun! Participants wishing to enter the Club at the U16 level must first speak with the Alpine Program Director, as significant skiing experience is expected for this group.

Skill Development Focus

All-mountain skiing; hill safety; skiing with a consistent stance width while maintaining a dynamic balanced athletic position, proper weight distribution between skis; utilizing effective pole plants for timing, balance, and upper body stability; utilizing a parallel lower leg stance to create dynamic balance & power; and developing tactical proficiency in Super G (and Downhill), Giant Slalom and Slalom. Increased focus on competition and racing, while continuing to develop a lifelong passion and mastery of the sport of skiing.

Races

U16 athletes will compete in 15-25 races (race days) per winter.

Within the Intermountain Division the U16 group will compete in Division-wide races. SBST will travel with U16 athletes to appropriate races, which includes a Regional Championship in March. The U16 race schedule can be tailored to fit individual athletes. U16 athletes are expected to travel to races as a team.

Snowbasin FIS TEAM - U19/FIS

 U21/U19

 Comprised of 16-18-year-old High School students (U19), and Post Graduate 18-20-year-old racers (U21), motivated U21 and U19 athletes work with a team of dedicated coaches that will employ at their discretion a unique combination of conditioning, big mountain free-skiing, and world class gate training on a consistent surface that only SBST can deliver. Our goal is advancing each individual's skiing and racing skills to maximize their athletic potential, and to help build the discipline, drive, and determination for them to succeed in whatever arena they choose after ski racing. This program covers all aspects of competitive racing, training, and conditioning. FIS program will train in the afternoons, with an early release from their respective schools. Those athletes not academically eligible for early release will train with the U 16 team and travel with the FIS team. Preseason dryland training is mandatory for FIS participants. Athletes will compete locally, regionally, and nationally at a level appropriate to their desire and ability, including NorAm, FIS, and USSA events.

Skill Development Focus

Hill safety; exhibiting a dynamic athletic balance and position in all terrain and conditions; exhibiting consistent width stance while maintaining dynamic balanced athletic position; skiing with weight distributed over the outside ski in all terrain and events; utilizing a double and single pole plant for timing, balance and upper body stability in all terrain types; utilizing a parallel lower leg stance to create dynamic balance and generate power in all conditions and courses; applying GS, SL and Super G tactics and learning the basic

fundamentals of downhill elements. Skill Development Focus Points: This program has consistent winning record of each individual's skill advancement at every level. Thanks to an exceptionally low athlete/coach ratio, SBST offers a high quality individual improvement focused program that delivers a curriculum covering fundamentals such as on hill safety through development of advanced skills for speed events.

 Races

FIS athletes will be encouraged to compete in 20-35 races per winter.

Within the Intermountain Division and the Western Region there are many USSA and FIS racing opportunities for athletes in this group. The individual race schedules will be tailored to fit each athlete. FIS athletes are expected to travel to races as a team and without the accompaniment of a parent/guardian.
