2022/23 Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour Feb 17-19

Dear Friends of Snowbasin Sports Education Foundation,
Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival is one of the largest and most prestigious mountain festivals in the world! Hot on the heels of the Festival that is held every fall in beautiful Banff, Alberta, the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour hits the road. With stops planned in roughly 550 communities and more than 40 countries across the globe, the Banff World Tour celebrates amazing achievements in outdoor storytelling and filmmaking worldwide!
From the over 400 entries submitted into the Festival each year, award-winners and audience favorites are among the films that are carefully selected to play in theatres around the world.
Traveling to remote vistas, analyzing topical environmental issues, and bringing audiences up-close and personal with adrenaline-packed action sports the 2022/2023 World Tour is an exhilarating and provocative exploration of the mountain world.
About the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour:
Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour was born from Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival which began in Banff, Alberta. In 1976 a tight-knit group of climbers and outdoor enthusiasts conceived The Banff Festival of Mountaineering Films. This was one-day gathering that became the renowned international Festival it is today. Over 30 years ago, Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival began an outreach program to bring the Festival to other communities. This has become known as Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour. Like the first festival in Banff, the tour began small – three cities across Canada. Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour now reaches over 40 countries and brings mountain films to an audience of over 550,000 worldwide in approximately 550 locations.

Silent Auction Donations & Work Deposit Credits
Please consider creating a donation basket to add to the silent auction. The silent auction is the largest fundraising component of the Winter Welcome. Donations from business & individuals create a fun vibe and auction revenue that funds new equipment/radios, safety net, special training opportunties & scholarships for our student-athletes. These things would not be possible without the generous support of donors and bidders.
So how does this relate to Work Deposit Credits? Volunteer or Donate a Silent Auction Item/Basket
When you registered your athlete for the Snowbasin Ski Team, part of the tuition is designated as a "work deposit," meaning that you can volunteer in different ways to earn that work deposit $$$ back! Our program is all about community. While we do need money to pay our operating expenses, honestly, we prefer your volunteer time when it comes to holding our races & fundraising events - like the Winter Welcome, Town Challenge Race, Banff Film Festival or one of our Hosted Home Races - South Series, YSL Final or IFSA Freeride Comp.
Below are the programs & associated work deposit amounts. Take a peek and then take a peek at our Volunteer Page for opportunities.

ODL Bon Voyage Celebration
Join SSEF & Roosters as we bid a fond Bon Voyage to our Old Day Lodge March 26th. The final Town Challenge race will decide which of our 14 teams stands tall on Podium 1, while the active bidding decides who takes home the last Middle Bowl Chair. Make sure to get your raffle tickets for day of prizes. Bring your chairs & sunscreen for the final days on the beach.
The Snowbasin Town Challenge is a fun and social ski-racing league with a competitive spirit and a little trash talk. Teams consisting of 4 to 6 members will compete against other teams in a series of 3 races. Only the top 4 skiers on each team score but scoring has been designed to give even novice racers the ability to earn a high score and help their team win the series.
We will have music, a live announcer, raffles, and GRAND PRIZES. Racers have the opportunity to qualify for Nastar Nationals.
Scoring
For the team score, your race time will give you an overall place. Based on your overall place, you will score between 100 to 1 points. Each racer will be assigned points descending from 100-1, beginning with 100 for 1st place, the points will descend every 10 places and then restart. A racer finishing 11th, 21st, 31st, 41st would all score 100 points, the same as the first place racer. The series is designed to give all team members of all abilities the opportunity to score for their team. The top 4-point scoring racers on your team will be used for your team’s race day score. All three-race series points will be added together for the final results. Should any two teams tie, the 5th team member’s points will be used, or they can elect to arm wrestle. Results will be posted shortly after each race and show each individual their raw or real-time and overall place (fastest to slowest), a Nastar handicapped time, and their team score. Results can also be viewed immediately on www.livetiming.com
Nastar National Championship
The Nastar National Championships will be held April 4th thru the 9th, 2022 at Aspen/Snowmass, Colorado. All Snowbasin town challenge series races are qualifying runs for the Nastar Nationals. A Nastar pass will not be required for those only wishing to race in the race series
Registration
Racers will also be asked to register with Nastar.
Racers of all ages and abilities are welcome. Teams are comprised of 4 to 6 racers and will need to have a team name.

Conditional re-runs will be determined by the start or finish referee. REGISTRATION RACE COURSE The race series will be on Showboat. If conditions allow, the start will be slightly higher than the Nastar start. The course will be open between 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM and will be on a first come, first serve basis.
